Greetings and salutations

This NYT story on revamped greeting cards says the makers want them to be more "relevant" and "topical." The pictures and anecdotes suggest that what this means is that the cards feature celebrities, both with and without permission. If there's a humorous Ellen line of greeting cards endorsed by Ellen DeGeneres, then Paris Hilton might have a claim against the unauthorized use of her likeness.

Initial interest confusion? The parodic elements -- note in particular the dig at his corporate sponsors -- only show up inside the card.
